Absorbent lipido-colloid foam dressing

Promoting healing and improving patients’ quality of life:

Pain-free and atraumatic dressing removal

A major benefit of TLC healing matrix (Technology Lipido-Colloid) is the non-adherence of the dressing allowing trauma-free removal from newly-formed tissue with no pain for the patient.

Composition

UrgoTul Absorb is a soft-adherent foam dressing with TLC, comprised of:

  • A soft-adherent TLC layer combined with an absorbent polyurethane foam pad
  • A protective non-woven polyurethane backing.

Mode of action

When in contact with wound exudate, UrgoTul Absorb gels and creates a moist environment, promoting healing. UrgoTul Absorb stimulates fibroblast proliferation and ensures non-adherence and pain-free dressing changes.
The absorbent polyurethane foam pad ensures drainage of exudate, protecting the peri-wound skin against maceration.

benefits-for-patientBenefits for patients

  • No adherence to the wound: pain-free dressing changes
  • Well tolerated
  • Very conformable to fit different wound shapes
  • Improved patient comfort
  • Can be left in place for up to 7 days* – fewer dressing changes

*dependent on wound condition and protocol (when prescribed with a compression bandage system for venous leg ulcers)

UrgoTul Absorb is indicated for the treatment of moderately to heavily exuding wounds in the epithelialisation stage (chronic wounds such as leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, acute wounds such as second-degree burns, skin abrasions, traumatic wounds, surgical wounds) and for the local treatment of fungating wounds in combination with its specific treatment.

Contraindications

None.

Instructions for use

  • Clean the wound as per local protocol and rinse with normal saline.
  • If an antiseptic is first used, rinse the wound thoroughly with saline solution before applying UrgoTul Absorb.
  • Dry the surrounding skin carefully.
  • Urgotul Absorb can be cut using sterile equipment to adjust the size of the dressing to fit the wound.
  • Using the tabs, remove the protective film,
  • Apply the soft-adherent side of UrgoTul Absorb to the wound,
  • Secure the dressing in place with a suitable bandage. Apply a compression bandage when prescribed.
  • UrgoTul Absorb should be changed every 2 to 4 days (up to 7 days*) depending on the level of exudate and the clinical condition of the wound.

*dependent on wound condition and protocol (when prescribed with a compression bandage system for venous leg ulcers)

Application of the heel version:

  • Cleanse the wound as per local protocol, then rinse the wound with sterile saline.
The dressing is in arrow shape. Remove the protective tabs.
  • Place the foot pointing in the direction of the arrow with the heel in the centre of the soft-adherent side (narrow part).
  • Fold the back of the dressing up and around the back of the heel.
Mold the edges up and around the foot.
  • Hold secondary dressing in place with a retention bandage.

Precautions for use

  • As the soft-adherent lipido-colloïd layer of Urgotul Absorb adheres to surgical gloves (latex), it is recommended to moisten the gloves with normal saline or to use sterile tweezers to facilitate handling of the dressing.
  • If clinical signs of local infection are noted, treatment can be changed to an antibacterial dressing of Urgo range (such as Urgocell Ag/Silver), dependent on clinical judgment.
  • Discard any unused parts of the dressing.
  • Check that the sterility protector is intact before use.
  • Single-use, sterile and individual dressing: re-using a single-use product may lead to risks of infection.
  • Do not re-sterilise the dressing.

What is UrgoTul Absorb?

UrgoTul Absorb is a soft-adherent foam dressing with TLC, comprised of:

  • A soft-adherent TLC layer combined with an absorbent polyurethane foam pad
  • A protective non-woven polyurethane backing.

How does UrgoTul Absorb work?

When in contact with wound exudate, UrgoTul Absorb gels and creates a moist environment, promoting healing. UrgoTul Absorb stimulates fibroblast proliferation and ensures non-adherence and pain-free dressing changes. The absorbent polyurethane foam pad ensures drainage of exudate, protecting the peri-wound skin against maceration.

What is the role of fibroblasts?

During wound healing, fibroblasts migrate within the wound area, proliferate and synthesize the extracellular matrix to form granulation tissue (newly formed tissue).
Fibroblasts are then differentiated in situ into myofibroblasts which bring the edges of the wound together due to their contractile properties.
TLC stimulates fibroblast proliferation which supports the healing process.

Indications

When should I use UrgoTul Absorb?

UrgoTul Absorb is indicated for the treatment of moderately to heavily exuding wounds during the epithelialisation stage.

Can I use UrgoTul Absorb on infected wounds?

Can I use UrgoTul Absorb during the desloughing stage?

Yes, however, UrgoClean is the recommended treatment option for desloughing.

What are the contraindications of UrgoTul Absorb?
